Why was LBJ's Brown Bag shut out of the three categories in which it was nominated? And LBJ's Brown Bag was omitted from the press release which mentioned the blogs that were nominated in three categories. What's the deal Black Weblog Awards?
@Disappointed: Each category has a popular vote and a judges' vote winner. The popular vote is determined by the people (the finalist with the most votes wins) and the judges' vote is determined by the judges (who review all blogs nominated, including the finalists). So it's not a matter of a blog being "shut out"; the people or the judges just didn't select it.
The press release is just that -- a press release.
This is...interesting. Frequently the judges pick conflicts with the popular vote so who is the "winner" in these cases?
My best friend just called from California to tell me that I won! I WON!!! I can't believe it. I can't wait to call my family, I can't wait to post these awards. CANNOT WAIT!
Can you please send the badges to me? I tried to use the contact form, but kept getting an error message.
Thank you so, so much!!!!!
well thank you! a pleasant surprise and we will try to keep up the good work.

[...] other news…..Sportaphile won the popular vote for “Best Sports Blog” @ the Black Weblog Awards 2008 today. Thanks to everyone who voted for me. (It’s crazy how I [...]
SOHH is a blog? They're a hip hop website who got hacked so bad that they were forced to move to typepad. Been 2 month since thehacking and they still haven't gotten it together. and because of this, they are a blog? Its like every year, there's a 'huh what' moment and this year is no different I guess.
Congrats to all the judge's winners. Quality not quantity.
I was so scared to scroll down in fear that I might have lost. Now I can tell the goons to put the tools up for we will not have to ride on anybody.
(Sorry for bringing my fuckery over to your respectable establishment but I"m just always in-character. LOL)
contact form not working for us either.... can you email graphic to us?
hmmm.... this is very interesting, indeed. I want to be on this list one day in the future :D
Maybe if they have a "best mixed" category :D
Awwww was hoping for Nyam to win but glad that it one judges pick:) Can't understand why Fly wasn't on here this year (what the deal people!:)) AND hope you guys consider allowing voters to select the blogs they want rather than voting each category. I didn't have a clue of who many of these bloggers were and voted in order to vote for my favorites.
It'll make for a fairer vote that way. And not have the voter approve of a blog that they may find they wouldn't otherwise read.

I'm too surprised that the Tech blogs would win in the Science/Tech category. I am very honored and glad to have made the Finalists cut and that my blog was one of 2 actual science blogs named as finalists. I am curious: How many blogs were nominated in this category and how many were science-based versus tech based. Science Blogs written by people of color are pretty rare, so I would love to connect to my brethren/sistern. So, BWA, can ya help me out with that? That would be nice.
i am in shock and so humbled by the judge's vote in the best personal blog category. thank you so much.
LOL, i don't know if you judges knew, but The Boy Genius Is Caucasian! Ya'll gotta do your research!
Congrats to The Field Negro, Afrobella, Darius T. Williams, and SoulBounce on their Black Weblog Awards. I think each blogger truly deserves.
I'd like to also take this time to encourage The Black Weblog Awards to perhaps introduce the catergory of Best Urban Blog, considering how there are many, many urban bloggers within the blogosphere.
Thanks to you
[...] in large part to your votes, www.ListenToLeon.net is now a Two-Time Winner of the Best Humor Blog category in the Black Weblog Awards. Time to break out the Ghettoweight Champion of the World photo [...]
The black weblog awards are a f*ckin joke. the same tired blogs win year after year, white blogs end up winning a black awards show - this sh*t is like the bet of blog awards. most of these blogs suck and the black weblog awards has like no integrity at all. way to go.
plus all the best blogs should have won
