Blogging Story: Patrice J. Williams

This blogging story comes to us from Patrice J. Williams of Living Fly On a Dime.

Living Fly on a Dime came about late last year when I was at a crossroad in my career. After being laid off from my job at a fashion magazine, I was a bit unsure of what I wanted to do. I also had no idea how I was going to survive in an expensive city like New York without a full time gig. I was able to secure freelance work but I knew I also wanted to start my own venture, something that was all mine, something where no one could ever "terminate my position."

I wanted to do something, but was just unsure of what it was.

My friends know I'm the queen of saving a buck but still live well and look fly. I've found a $2 Prada bag while thrift shopping and I've even scored a round trip flight to Belize for $154.

I decided to start a budget living blog and share my tips for living a cheap chic lifestyle. Now I had to come up with a catchy, memorable name. I brainstormed ideas for a blog title while trying to tune out the crazies on the subway. After compiling a list of about 10 or 15 names, I finally settled on Living Fly on a Dime.

I purchased the domain name and began blogging the next day even though I had no clue what I was doing. As someone who came from the world of newspapers and magazines, words like SEO and HTML were foreign to me.

However, I learned along the way.

Living Fly on a Dime was originally just a hobby and I could have cared less if anyone read it, but after realizing the potential for it (and that people were actually reading), I started to take it seriously.

It's still something I do for fun, but I also have long term goals that include...well, I can't share my master plan with you just yet. But just watch and see.
