Blogging Story: Robert Gelinas
Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at 10:00AM
This blogging story comes to us from Robert Gelinas of Reflections of a Jazz Theologian. Robert is also a 2009 Black Weblog Award winner for Best Faith-Based Blog (Judges' Vote).
I began blogging, anonymously, in 2004. I had some thoughts about jazz and faith that I wanted to work out without the pressure of people knowing me, at the same time, I desired to have people thoughtfully interact with and challenge my ideas. Eventually, I went "public" at jazztheologian.com and what a ride it has been! The basic concepts of my blog turned in to a two book deal with a major publisher: Finding the Groove: Composing a Jazz-Shaped Faith (Zondervan) and Strange Fruit: Responding to the Blue Note of the Cross (due out Spring 2011).
In 2009 my blog was judges' choice for the Black Weblog awards (Yeah!). Within, six months my blog was picked up by Beliefnet.com (the world's largest religious website). Now I'm a professional blogger (part time, of course), as I'm one of the featured bloggers at Beliefnet.com. The Black Weblog Awards have played a huge part...thanks for all that you do!
How did you begin blogging? Who (or what) influenced or inspired you? What has blogging brought to your life? We want to know! Send your post to staff@blackweblogawards.com in text (500 words or less), audio, or video, and we’ll post them on the Black Weblog Awards blog! Visit our Blogging Story post for more information.
