Blogging Story: Todra Payne
Monday, September 6, 2010 at 10:00AM
This blogging story comes to us from Todra Payne of Makeup Theory Workshops and The Healthy Beauty Project.
I began blogging six years ago when I read an article online that said all small businesses should blog. At the time, I didn't even know what a blog was. After reading the article and learning about blogs, I started a beauty based blog called, Crushed Berries. It was a free Blogger account. And I did it mainly for fun.
Since that humble beginning, I've had two blogs that I've used to boost my business as a makeup artist. Just today I was interviewed by the BBC on a post I did on one of my blogs. I've gotten jobs, media interviews and made friends through blogging.
My newest site, which is on a blog platform (WordPress), incorporates video and written word to attract an audience. Only up one month, The Healthy Beauty Project is doing amazing. I've gotten lots of media attention and formed a co-op of natural beauty brands that I can introduce to the world through my site. As it is a much bigger venture than my other blogs, I have a small staff of freelancers who help me. I intend to monetize it through advertising in a few months.
Overall, I think blogging is an amazing invention. Not many people realize the power of blogs to reach the world, literally. Now that I'm more focused with my blog and intend for it to be a commercial venture, I've added tracking software to see where my readers are. They are all over the globe! Before blogging, I could never have written a piece and had it discovered by the media in London.
I would not have connected with a makeup enthusiast in Los Angeles and visited her for a week making vital contacts in the entertainment industry. I also was able to co-write two beauty books because the editors found me through my beauty blog!
I can't imagine why anyone with the time wouldn't start a blog. It's changed my business and my life in so many ways.
How did you begin blogging? Who (or what) influenced or inspired you? What has blogging brought to your life? We want to know!
