New Blogger on the Block
Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at 08:30AM Our new Blogger on the Block this week is:
Alysia Allen from Mocha Girls Read.
Why did you decide to start a blog?
After looking all over the internet for a book club, I found two and joined them both. They were really great and I have made a few new friends from them. But I noticed one thing about both of them…I was the only black, woman of color, African-American, mocha girl in the clubs. I thought about this for a while and finally said to myself, “Self, there has got to be some sistas in LA who like to read.”
So Mocha Girls Read was born.
When people come to your blog, what will they find?
Mocha Girls Read is a new monthly book club based in the Los Angeles area. We are a group of black women who love to read, want to read more and meet like-minded women. The books we read range from fiction, self-help, historical romance, best sellers, good ol’ short stories and basically anything we can get our hands on. Mocha Girls Read brings black women in the community together to read great literature, online and in person chit chatting about the monthly selection and a whole lot more.
What's the promise you make to people who visit your blog?
You will find:
1. Information about books and book related events in various areas.
2. A book of the month selection
3. The chance to meet like minded women in person or online who read
4. Information about other black women bloggers and their sites.
5. Monthly Giveaways of books and book related items.
Who are your blogging inspirations or heroes?
Since we have been up and running for 3 months as of today. I would love to be like Alexis at Reflections of a Bookaholic and Kathy at I am a Reader not a Writer. They seem to be the center of the book blogging universe. I would like to be the go to site for Black Women Book bloggers and Black women readers.
