Prize Donation Clarification

Monday, July 31st, 2006

We’ve received a few e-mails about this, so hopefully this post will clear up any other confusion.

Donors are more than welcome to pledge a prize to any category they wish, regardless of whether or not someone else has donated a prize to that same category.

So don’t let someone else’s donation stop you - sweeten the pot, baby!

To the gentleman who sent us an e-mail offering two of his novels for prizes in this year’s Awards: please provide us with a correct e-mail address. We can’t respond back to your offer because the one you provided did not let our message through (550 Mailbox Unavailable). We would love to acknowledge you for generous donation; just let us know which category to put the prize towards.

Thanks!

Guess Who’s Back!

Sunday, July 30th, 2006

Well, after many e-mails and IMs (and even a few phone calls!), the three of us sat down and looked at whether we should put in the Best Blog Design category this year. Without divulging too much of what happened last year, at the end of the 2005 BWAs, I didn’t know if we should include it this year. A “blog design” can be such an iffy thing to judge.

Does it include a fully tricked out site with custom graphics or is it just modifying someone else’s existing template? And what about those blogs with nice designs that weren’t done by the blog’s author, but by someone else? Do you credit the blog, or do you credit the designer? With all of those factors, we realized that holding it up to the person who nominates the blog is what we’d have to rely upon.

So…we’re going to put the Best Blog Design category back, with the following conditions:

  • No pre-packaged/pre-designed “themes”
  • Minor modifications on pre-packaged/predesigned “themes” are not eligible (i.e., link color changes, a new header image, etc.)
  • If the design is NOT a pre-packaged/pre-designed “theme”, credit must be given to the designer on the blog
  • No stolen designs

We promise…no other new categories before the Awards start on Tuesday! These 21 are the final category count.
