2Today is the last day to get in your nominations and votes for the 2010 Black Weblog Awards. The nomination form will automatically close at 12:00am EDT. You will not be able to nominate any more blogs for this year’s awards after that point.
For the rest of the month, we will conduct our vote audit, and we will announce the finalists on August 1.
Help Kickstart the 2011 Black Weblog Awards

10Now that we are in our sixth year, we are expanding our mission to capture more of the Black blogosphere, increase awareness of one of the fastest growing demographics on the web, and ensure our success in the years to come.
In order to do this, we need help from the online community. In 2011, we want to have a live awards ceremony with trophies, live streaming video, and a private reception. This will not only put the Black Weblog Awards on the map physically, but also metaphorically, showing that the recognition of the breadth and depth of knowledge, experience, and cultural significance is truly worth showcasing. With your help, we can make this happen.
Visit our Kickstarter campaign page at http://kck.st/c5MjAt and donate today. You can pledge to donate as little as $5 to help us reach our goal.
Our campaign will end on September 1, 2010, the same day we announce our 2010 Black Weblog Award winners. Let’s make 2011 a year to remember with our first live awards show!
2010 Blogging While Brown Conference

7The 2010 Blogging While Brown Conference in Washington DC has come and gone, and once again, it was an event filled with knowledge, camaraderie, and spirit. Founded by Black Weblog Award winner Gina McCauley in 2008, the purpose of the conference is to facilitate conversations that lead to collaboration and innovation among bloggers of color — African-American bloggers in particular. Emphasis is placed on stimulating interaction between the attendees, and all conference activities and events are aimed at fostering a shared experience which forms the basis of new relationships or strengthens relationships already in existence.
2011 SXSW PanelPicker Open Now Through July 9

5SXSW – a set of interactive, film, and music festivals and conferences located in Austin, TX – is one of those types of events that you have to be there to fully experience. For us on the web, the interactive festival is huge because of the information and the connections available. The film and music festivals are huge also, with dozens of films shown and bands performing from every genre. There’s truly something there for everyone.
As you may remember, we had our own successful SXSW panel in 2010 during the Interactive Festival entitled Black Blogging Rockstars. (In case you missed it, there’s video here on our website, as well as audio on the SXSW site.)
Right now, SXSW is accepting proposals for their PanelPicker from now through July 9.
Here’s the link to the PanelPicker: http://panelpicker.sxsw.com.
For information on what you should submit in your proposal, or any other questions, make sure to check out the PanelPicker FAQ on the SXSW website.
